FAIRFAX COUNTY SWAT BASIC SNIPER SCHOOL

Course Description

 

Course Description:  This course is designed for new snipers who want to obtain their certification and develop a solid foundation as a police sniper. The primary focus of this 5 day school is to deliver the one accurate shot needed to neutralize a threatening target. Emphasis on accuracy, scope theory, position shooting techniques, observation, operational tactics, and of course, the cold bore shot. Other areas of instruction include, rifle maintenance, rifle mechanics, ballistics, key shot placement, and night fire. This course will take the student from 25 to 400 yards providing valuable information for the data book. This school is intensive and it will prepare and certify the student to deploy as an operational sniper.

 

Course Standards: You must be a member of an operational SWAT, SERT, ERT, TAC Team or a Firearms Instructor to attend this class. This class is mentally and physically challenging as is the world that the sniper will be protecting. The student will be required to pass a Sniper Qualification course, timed drills and a written test.  Students must attend all 50 hours of the course to be certified.

 

Recommended Equipment:             

                       

  • Precision .308 cal Rifle w/ High Quality Tactical Scope (scope w/ Target turrets)
  • Weapon must have Bipod and Sling
  • Shooting Mat
  • 500 rounds (same lot #) Ammo (Federal Gold Medal Match Recommended)
  • Rear shooting bag for rifle (must have)
  • Camo BDU’s Top and Bottoms (any pattern)
  • Ghillie Suit (optional)
  • Face Paint or Head Cover
  • Rucksack or backpack for gear
  • Binoculars
  • Cleaning rods, patches, solvent, etc.
  • Rain gear
  • Data book provided
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen

 

 

This school will be conducted at the Fairfax County Police Firearms Training Unit located at 3721 Stonecroft Blvd. Chantilly Va. 20151. Students must register through the Fairfax County SWAT Team to be enrolled.
